Day 7: THAILAND DEFEATS SRI LANKA BY 4 WICKETS
Sri Lanka went up against Thailand today at the Royal Selangor Club. Thailand won the toss and chose to field against their opponents.
The first 3 overs saw four boundary-fours from Yashodha Mendis and one boundary-four from Anushka Meegama that brought the score up to 31 runs. Sornnarin Tippoch took her first wicket as she dismissed Yashodha Mendis for 22 at 3.3 overs. In the 6th over, Hasini Withanage was dismissed run out by Nannapat Khoncharoenkai for 4, leaving Sri Lanka with 36 for 2.
Thailand was quick with their wickets. At 9.3 overs, Harshitha Samarawickrama was dismissed for 9 by Wongpaka Liengprasert. At 10.1 they took their fourth wicket, dismis sing Rebeka Vandort for 3. The 12th over saw another dismissal as Nilakshika Silva gets dismissed By Wongpaka for 2. The over ended with 67 for 5 for Sri Lanka.
At 13.2, Wongpaka took another wicket as Shashikala Siriwardana was dismissed for 2. Oshadhi Ranasinghe walked in to bat and swung a four at 14.6, ending the 15th over with 85 for 6.
In the 18th over, Wongpaka took two more wickets for Thailand â" opener Anushka Meegama was dismissed stumped for 32 at 17.3 and Sugandika Dassanayaka was dismissed caught for a duck at 17.4. In the 20th over, Sornnarin Tippoch dismissed Udeshika Kaluwa for 5 at 19.3 overs. The final bowl of innings was another wicket to Thailand, dismissing Inoka Ranaweera for 2. Thailand was left to make 105 in their innings to outrun their opponents.
Naruemol Chaiwai and Natthakan Chantham opened for Thailand. In the first over, the partners swung two boundary-fours off Udeshika Kaluwa. In the fourth over, Naruemol delivered another, bringing t he score up to 26. Natthakan was dismissed lbw at 7.5 overs for 15 by Sugandika. At the end of the 10th over, Thailand was already catching up to Sri Lanka with 57 runs.
By the 15th over, Naruemol and Nattaya Boochatham brought the team up to 77 for 1, just 28 runs away from the win. As Thailand had 9 wickets standing and 5 more overs left, they started making riskier runs. The 16th over saw two dismissals â" Naruemol dismissed caught and bowled for 43 by Nilakshika Silva and Nannapat dismissed run out for 1 by Anushka. Chanida Sutthiruang batted next and swung a four off her first ball. Thailand had 83 for 3 at the end of the 16th over.
In the 18th over, Chanida was taken out by Nilakshika for 6. At 18.2, Wongpaka swung a four and brought the score up to 94 â" just 11 runs away from winning. Nattaya was dismissed at 18.4 for 19 by Oshadhi, leaving Thailand with 95 for 5.
Thailand had 6 bowls left and needed 6 runs to win - but at 19.1 Sornnarin was dismissed stumped by Rebeka off Inoka Ranaweera for 0. Wongpaka and Suleeporn had to make 6 in five bowls, and managed to make just that! Wongpaka made the 105th run at the very last bowl, winning Thailand the match by 4 wickets!
